Rateable and Non- rateable Land (Internal)
100% Non- rateable:
- Land owned by a society/ association for conservation/ preservation purposes - it must be accessible to public and non-profit, such as national parks, reserves, conservation areas.
- Land used by Council for gardens, reserves, playground and for games and sports (specifically excludes horse/ greyhound racing)
- Certain public buildings like churches and educational premises (including housing if used by staff); halls, libraries, museums, art galleries, swimming pools, cemeteries, crematoria, hospitals, health services.
50% Non- rateable:
- Land owned by society/ association for games and sports (specifically excludes horse/ greyhound racing) E.g A&P showgrounds.
- Land owned/ used by society/ association for the purpose of any branch of the arts.
Rates that can be charged on non- rateable land: water supply, sewage disposal, refuse collection.
