How do I dispose of old cell phones?

Regardless of whether it is in perfect working order, the screen’s broken or it doesn’t even turn on, they can be recycled!

Cell phones can be dropped off for free at the collection boxes in all libraries and service centres. Mobile phones can also be recycled free of charge at the transfer stations. Please ask the staff at the transfer station.

Note: We have a scheme that collects old cell phones of all kinds, which raises funds for Sustainable Coastlines. You are welcome to clear the memory and remove SIM cards from phones for your privacy if you prefer, but all units will have their memory wiped as part of the recycling process.

For every phone recycled with RE:MOBILE money is donated to Sustainable Coastlines, a multi award winning New Zealand charity working hard to look after the waterways and coastlines we love.
