Rates Overview

Rates are charged against a property (rating unit) and set by your local and regional councils. Local rates are struck every July by Central Otago District Council and paid in four instalments, Otago Regional Council struck their rates every September and they only get paid once a year.

Rates are based on what a property is used for, such as residential or commercial use, and the land value/capital value of the property. They are like a property tax, which provides the revenue Council needs in order to deliver a range of services to its community.

Copies of the CRID are available for inspections during office hours at the service centres in Alexandra, Cromwell, Roxburgh and Ranfurly.

In some situations, copies can be purchased as per Council's fees & charges that is updated annually. For 2025-2026, this is $480.00.

Ratepayer Name and Post Address Withheld

Customers can request this information be withheld and there is no requirement to give a reason. The request must be in writing to rates@codc.govt.nz
